Creative Connexions proudly presents the Roundtable discussion which will take place at the end of the first day of a two-day International Conference at the Victoria and Albert Museum on June 6th and 7th June 2008.
While working with Chinese companies and UK design agencies, Creative Connexions have recognised the importance for UK design agencies understanding the local design needs, the creative process, local know-how, and most importantly be seen as part of the China design industry and work together. We believe that collaborations between Chinese and UK design industries are likely to benefit both parties in the longer term. The discussion panel will focus on the “Why does design matter?” and “The value of design from two cultural perspectives” .
Objectives:
- To discuss how design brings value to businesses in both countries and the challenges of communicating this to the respective markets.
- Is collaboration an option? What are the challenges - pitfalls and opportunities it presents?

The passage leading to the Henry Cole Wing is opposite the entrance to the V&A cafe.
There will be signs in place identifying the event and the venue. Guests should take the lift to the
5th floor and the room is directly opposite.
Discussion Topics and Questions:
- What value does design from either country bring to businesses?
- Why should UK and Chinese design industries collaborate?
- How would each party benefit from such collaborations?
- What forms would the collaborations take?
- What kind of commitments are required from either design industry to realise such collaborations?
